The CEO of AMC Entertainment has polled the audience on whether the firm should accept Dogecoin for payment, and the majority of respondents say yes.
Following the news that AMC will start taking Bitcoin, Ethereum, Bitcoin Cash, and Litecoin for online payments, the company’s CEO has asked the Dogecoin community if the meme coin should be included in the list of cryptocurrency choices.
Almost 80% want to use DOGE to pay for a movie ticket.
On Tuesday, September 21st, 2021, Adam Aron, CEO of AMC Entertainment, the world’s largest movie theater chain, launched a vote on Twitter to see if the firm should accept DOGE payment. The vote, which will close on September 22nd, has received many replies, with the majority of them requesting that AMC add the meme cryptocurrency.
According to Aron, the Twitter poll was prompted by requests from members of the Dogecoin online community to add DOGE to the list of crypto choices.
“I hear from many on my Twitter feed we should accept Dogecoin too. Do you think AMC should explore accepting Dogecoin?”
The AMC CEO has previously stated that the movie theater chain will take Ethereum, Bitcoin Cash, and Litecoin by the end of 2021. This follows Aron’s announcement in August during an earnings call that consumers will be able to pay for movie tickets and snacks online using bitcoin before the end of the year.
So far, 110,000 people have voted in the survey, with 70% agreeing that DOGE payment is a good concept, while 8% agree but claim they would not use the meme coin for payment. Meanwhile, 22% of voters were opposed to the move.
Dogecoin Payments are gaining popularity.
Aron’s study comes while the cryptocurrency industry and global financial markets witness huge price drops, largely due to the Evergrande tragedy. Bitcoin, which had been trading at $48k over the weekend, has plummeted to as low as $40k, with the price of other cryptocurrencies the following suit. However, there has been some improvement.
Dogecoin is the tenth most valuable cryptocurrency by market capitalization, with an all-time high (ATH) of over $0.7 in May. However, it’s already down to about $0.2.
If AMC Entertainment adds the meme token to its list of accepted cryptocurrencies, it will be the latest firm to accept DOGE payments. The Dallas Mavericks, an American basketball club, and Newegg are among those that have accepted Dogecoin.
Tesla’s CEO Elon Musk, in addition to AMC’s Adam Aron, conducted a similar poll for his fans. However, even though many respondents supported the electric car manufacturer’s decision to include DOGE as a payment option, the firm has yet to make it official.
